This building is actually really cool. It may not look like it, but they kept the principles of Feng Shui in mind during design. This may be due to a legend surrounding the building I.M. Pei designed for the rival Bank of China, they did not adhere to these principles and it was said to be to blame for bad things happening around the city. So in Foster’s HSBC building, they have things like a giant mirror array on the outside of the building that funnels sunlight into the reflectors of the atrium ceiling and the escalators are very explicitly not parallel to each other. They also used completed drop-in modules for things like restrooms in order to build it faster.
