Yep they discourage or even chase you away if you sit and try to eat your slice of pizza on the fountain, but it is a fantastic square to just sit there and take it all in for an hour or two. Particularly interesting is watching the panhandlers perform their act with their baby at the doors of Santa Maria. every now and then somebody takes a break and passes off the baby to somebody else. The church is amazing and a marvelous compilation of Roman building parts and columns repurposed. I rented an apartment around the corner for a couple of weeks and so enjoyed feeding my raven I befriended and listening to the soft bells of Santa Maria in the morning. Beautiful
