After the year of YEARS in 2020, it seems nearly everyone in the world is yearning for a sense of calm – and Dulux’s new ‘Nourish’ palette is exactly what the doctor ordered!
‘These colours are like a gentle hug – warm, comforting and grounding,’ says Dulux Colour and Communications Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr. ‘There’s a lightness and optimism to the palette that speaks of better times ahead.’ She’s talking golden buff, earthy ochre and muted olive green – perfect for matching with raw, natural finishes and honey-coloured timbers.
Together with Dulux, stylist Bree Leech embarked on an easy, economical makeover of the living space in this traditional family home, to uplift and re-energise the space, using a mixture of tones from the Dulux Colour Forecast 2021 to accentuate existing furniture pieces, period details and striking artworks.
Bree started with a layer of natural-toned ‘Buff It’ on the walls, while the feature alcoves near the fireplace are coated in the pinky ‘Skip To’. ‘White Exchange Half’ in aquanamel gloss was used on the fireplace, cornices and woodwork to really make the heritage features POP.
‘The Nourish colours curated by Dulux are a fresh spin on the rich, saturated colours we normally associate with autumn – think the soft tones of freshly fallen leaves,’ says Bree. ‘And they work so well here, adding warmth without sacrificing the light and open feel.’
When it came to furnishings, Bree swapped out angular pieces for comfy, upholstered chairs with full curves. These chubby pieces in olive and caramel leather sit in easy dialogue with the wall colours.
To add some textural flair, Bree created an open-shelf display with a mix of vintage and handcrafted ceramics inspired by the paint palette. ‘This is a quick and affordable decor idea – simply look around your local op shop for ceramics in a variety of interesting shapes and paint them in tonal hues,’ says Bree. Voila!
Thinking about repainting for maximum impact on minimal budget? Dulux is giving away 50 litres of paint to one lucky TDF reader wanting to makeover their own space. AND to round out (pardon the pun!) the curvy interior *lewk*, you could also win a circular ‘Femme’ vase from Jessica Choi of Eun Ceramics AND a crescent-shaped Arc Vase by ceramicist Deborah Sweeney – both from Makers’ Mrkt. SUCH a good prize!
The competition commences at 06:00 (AEST) on Thursday, February 18th 2021 and ends at midnight (AEST) on Wednesday, March 3rd 2021. The winner will be selected and contacted on Friday, March 5th 2021, via email. See here for terms and conditions.
