The insurer joined a select few property and casualty providers in asking more of suppliers.
The Allstate Corporation has announced that it has joined the CDP Supply Chain, which means it will be requesting that its key suppliers report their emissions data.
This will be one of several steps the insurer is making to boost its supply chain transparency.
The emissions data is reported to CDP Supply Chain, which is a global non-profit disclosure system that makes it possible for businesses to manage and measure the impact they have on the environment. As one of the biggest property and casualty insurance companies in the United States, it has joined thirty more companies to take part this year.
“Allstate has been reporting to CDP since 2007. With a large global supply chain, we know that continuously working to mitigate our emissions and improve environmental disclosures extends to those we do business with,” said Allstate senior supervisor of sourcing and procurement solutions, Cheryl Harris. “This decision was the natural next step in our environmental, social and governance reporting journey.”
The supplier greenhouse gas emissions will be reported to the CDP Supply Chain platform.
Last year, over 8,400 companies disclosed their own environmental data to the platform at the request of hundreds of purchasers and investors. There are also more than 920 cities, states and regions that have made these same disclosures.

“This milestone is a signal to suppliers, investors and other stakeholders that we take climate risk and environmental transparency seriously across our business,” said Michael Thomas, Allstate vice president of administration and real estate.
The insurer recently put out its 18th Sustainability Report, which described its inclusive diversity, corporate governance, community involvement, ethics and environmental practices. Among the primary points outlined within it included that the insurer had earned a position on the Down Jones Sustainability Indices for the second year in a row. This was a result on Allstate’s leadership in sustainability.
Joining the CDP Supply Chain was only the latest step the company has taken in its commitment to sustainability practices and reducing its carbon and greenhouse emissions footprint as well as to protect water resources and safeguard forests.
