Looking for a fun Valentine’s Day craft for the whole family? Look no further than these adorable Love Bugs that are so fun to make for all ages. Toddlers will love making them and so will tweenagers too. Actually, I enjoyed making some of them myself.
These Valentine’s day love bugs are adorable! I mean all of them are! My favourite has to be the Lovebug Painted rock pebbles, such a cute variation on the traditionally styled love bugs. We made some of these crafts with a toddler group and the kids really enjoyed, basically anything that is painting a toddler will love. So these are a Perfect valentine’s day craft for toddlers and ages up.
Whilst writing this article it got me wondering where and how love bugs became a part of valentine’s day. So I did some research and Lovebugs are actually real bugs! Real bugs that stick together, you know as if they are so in love they are inseparable. So basically you need to be a pair of lovebugs.
The lovebug (Plecia nearctica) is a species of march fly found in parts of Central America and the southeastern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast.[2] It is also known as the honeymoon fly or double-headed bug. During and after mating, matured pairs remain together, even in flight, for up to several days.[3]
Lovebugs are actually flies (Diptera) of the family Bibionidae, having the scientific name, Plecia nearctica
Okay so back to Valentine’s day crafts and activities… I hope you love these little bugs as much as I do and the best thing is they are small enough to post, so you can send them to family and loved ones all over the world. Last year I used these Ladybug chocolates to create a fun little gift for my kids to handout at school for Valentine’s day, I simply added a Large cutout hear to the bottom of each chocolate. Such a simple easy kids craft idea.
