Halsey, who sang a song called “Ghost” on her first album, might soon be getting back in touch with the spirit world. Dirt has revealed that she was the buyer of Liam Payne’s sprawling compound in Calabasas, California, which the former boy-bander once claimed was haunted by a previous owner. Payne offloaded the house earlier this year, after nearly five years of ownership, for just over $10.16 million.
Halsey’s new home sits on five acres of secluded property. The main house comprises almost 9,700 square feet of space, including five bedrooms and five bathrooms, as well as a family kitchen, home theater, wine cellar, and a cozy library that spans two floors. The home is decorated in the Spanish style, with plenty of wrought-iron accents and dark hardwood floors and ceilings. Each structure on the estate is nestled among lush grounds and reached by stone pathways dotted with peaceful koi ponds and waterfalls.
According to Payne, the home was haunted by Alan Purwin, the late aerial film operator who originally built it. The musician once shared that he had “seen lights go on and off in the middle of the night and a few little creepy things, like taps turning on and off,” though he added that “If you don’t believe in it, I don’t think it can get to you”—so, hopefully, Halsey won’t be bothered by a seemingly harmless old ghost.
The sale comes almost a full year after Halsey, born Ashley Frangipane, sold her uniquely designed modern home in the Hollywood Hills. Though she offloaded that property for $2.375 million in March 2020, three years after she bought it, she is still the owner of the midcentury-modern Sherman Oaks home she purchased for $2.4 million in the summer of 2019.
The property was jointly listed with Jonah Wilson of Hilton & Hyland and Tomer Fridman at Compass.
