Calling all New Kids on the Block devotees: Jonathan Knight is headed to HGTV with a new renovation series. The Grammy-nominated singer will trade in his microphone for a hammer in “Farmhouse Fixer,” a renovation series set to follow the NKOTB singer as he restores centuries-old New England farmhouses in dilapidated states. The six-episode series, set to premiere on March 3 at 9 p.m., will follow Knight step by step as he modernizes the homes while still preserving their original craftsmanship and historic charm.
“Restoring the American farmhouse is not just a hobby for me—it’s my passion [and] obsession,” Knight, who has been in the renovation space for more than 25 years, said in a press release. “It’s so easy to just go knock down an old house. It’s way harder to renovate them so that families can enjoy them for years to come. That’s the reason this work is so worth it.” Knight added, “To me, being on a farm is a way of life. It’s the real deal. Old farmhouses are disappearing off the landscape, but these are American treasures that should be saved.”
The first episode will follow the “Step by Step” singer as he revitalizes a New Hampshire farmhouse from the 1700s with help from his designer friend, Kristina Crestin. The tasks at hand include the removal of a sinking addition to the home and the conversion of a backyard tool shed into a potting bench and chicken coop. Future episodes will explore the transformation of an enviable chef’s kitchen and outdoor projects, such as the creation of a goat enclosure and raised garden beds.
In a sneak peek for “Farmhouse Fixer,” the NKOTB references are aplenty. Among a sea of historical homes constructed in the 1700s, a homeowner says to Knight in the preview, “Ours [was built in] 1873, so really it’s kind of the new kid on the block compared to the others.” Knight laughs and responds, “I see what you did there.”
“Farmhouse Fixer” premieres on HGTV on Wednesday, March 3 at 9 p.m.
