Vice President Kamala Harris’s move into the official veep residence at Number One Observatory Circle in Washington, D.C., may still be a work in progress, but she’s wasted no time at all in bidding farewell to one of her former West Coast properties. Just over a week after it hit the market for $799,000, Harris’s San Francisco apartment is already under contract, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The 1,069-square-foot penthouse condo spans two levels atop a small boutique building in the city’s trendy SoMa neighborhood, per the listing. The main level comprises an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area, plus a half bathroom and an alcove that can be used as a home office. A staircase off the living area leads to a loft encompassing the apartment’s bedroom and full bathroom, separated by a walk-through closet.
The double-height living and dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows that lead out to a private terrace and overlook the city. Those impressive windows, plus the unit’s high ceilings, bright white walls, and pale gray kitchen cabinetry, amount to a luxurious light-filled retreat located just above the busyness of San Francisco below.
Harris reportedly purchased the condo for $489,000 in 2004, shortly after she was elected as the city’s district attorney; it’s located only about a mile from the San Francisco Superior Courthouse. Her other homes include a two-bedroom condo in D.C. that she purchased after being elected to the Senate in 2016, as well as a $5 million mansion in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles that was owned by Doug Emhoff at the time of their 2014 wedding and that is now co-owned by Harris.
As vice president, Harris is also the proud holder of the keys to a 9,000-square-foot home on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory, though she and Emhoff are reportedly living in Blair House, the presidential guesthouse, while renovations are completed on Number One Observatory Circle.
