The Challenge: Scandinavian Office Design
Relocating an office and laboratory from one state to another within a short timeframe comes with substantial challenges. For the online office design, the interior designer had to:
- Design an office space of 2500 square feet
- Ensure impressive Scandinavian office interior design
- Incorporate large glass doors and panels for a sophisticated, modern look
- Come up with creative solutions to showcase products in a sophisticated way
- Ensure the Scandinavian furniture communicates luxury and professionalism

The Office Inspiration
The client had a clear vision for his corporate image: glass dividers, white finishes, contemporary lighting, and industrial features. Furthermore, masculine lofts, especially their concrete flooring and exposed beams, caught his eye. And combined with high-end office furniture, the inspiration suggested a definite look – unapologetic, trendy Scandinavian interior design. To make it all come to life, he needed office design assistance.
The Scandinavian Office Design
After receiving two Scandinavian office interior design proposals, the client chose to work with Sonia C. Her concept features a modern loft style, but also includes gentle greenery and soft furnishings. Moreover, the addition of plants and tactile elements balances the coolness of contemporary Scandinavian design.
A moodboard is more than an initial guide. In fact, a mood board is an excellent starting point where the client and designer can discuss possibilities and refine the concept. Sonia’s mood board for the online office design shows conference room and reception layouts, architectural features, and bespoke lighting. To give the client a memorable brand image, Sonia suggested combining strong visuals, like a vapor graphic wallpaper and a green living wall, with a clean contemporary design.
Sonia suggests simple décor, desk accessories, and a wall-mounted logo to add personality and strengthen the brand image in the bullpen. Equally important, autonomous workstations would allow employees to work comfortably and in style. There is also enough room for employees to move about freely and comfortably.
The Online Office Design Result: Reception Area
With input from the client, the designer perfected her designs. As a result, the reception area is clean, luxe but still inviting. An asymmetrical reception desk injects the edginess of contemporary design without it being stark. And, although the desk is white, it’s subtle because of the room’s light wall color. The company logo, seating area, and décor accents are really the highlight because of the light and bright space.
A tall glass door panel provides an impressive focal for clients in the reception area as well as a practical division that keeps an open plan atmosphere. Opaque film on the lower half of the glass panes gives privacy to the adjacent conference room. By keeping the upper half of the glass see-through, visitors will have a clear view of the spectacular dropped light chandelier. The installation is a great example of simple but effective Scandinavian interior design.
The structured V-shape lighting forms an impressive backdrop for the comfortable, loungy waiting area. With a sectional sofa, end table, and lounge chairs, clients will feel at ease and special. To ensure the online office design is warm and welcoming, the designer added scatter pillows, a warming floor lamp, and a round rug to pull it all together. In addition, small details like the triangular shelving and pot plant make the space feel a little more like home – sure to make clients want to visit again.
The Online Office Design Result: Bullpen
There are few styles as well suited to an open plan workspace as Scandinavian office interior design. Clean, minimal lines eliminate distractions, while contemporary lighting, abstract art, and stationery organizers add personality and style to the interior. The designer chose wood vinyl flooring and planters to give the space warmth characteristic of Scandinavian interiors.
Height-adjustable smart desks and ergonomic chairs are both aesthetically pleasing and sensible. With their unique Scandinavian office design, the chairs add a contemporary edge that also ensures employees can work comfortably throughout their workday. The combination of practicality and visual impact can certainly lead to a happier team.
The neutral color scheme of white, brown, black and blue accents is typical for a Scandinavian office interior design. What’s more, it can induce calm as blues and browns can encourage focus. The palette is also practical as the off-white ceilings, HVAC, and walls reflect light, making the room feel bigger and brighter.
Office Design Tip: Bold colors, like orange, red and yellow, are energizing and good for creativity. However, too much can cause irritability and restlessness. For more online office interior design tips, check out our home office design ideas.
The Online Office Design Result: Conference Room
The conference room’s online office design is a mix of work and play. A Ping-Pong conference table is the undeniable focal point, surrounded by clear Scandinavian furniture. Its black surface and colorful paddles also echo the whimsical chandelier hanging above. The unfussy design has a clear message: let’s get to business and have fun.
The black frame glass panels and dropped ceiling offer privacy for meetings. This design also increases the light value within the room thanks to the combination of glass and light-colored walls. A smart screen provides convenience for online meetings and presentations, while the shelving below can showcase some of the company’s products – perfect motivation for brainstorming sessions.
