After being in our house for 5 months now, we are finally ready to tackle our dining room. Come see what we have planned for this space!
Hello, hello! If you follow me on on Instagram, you know we have been making plans for our dining room for a little while now. You probably also know that we actually use our dining room every single day. We eat dinner in our dining room every night. We also always sit here to play board games and do puzzles. It’s definitely NOT an unused room in our house, which is very intentional. I grew up in a house where we didn’t use our dining room, and I didn’t want to do that. We want this room to be beautiful and relaxing. We want to WANT to linger in here. So I’ve thought about the design a lot.
This room has a long way to go to become what we want it to be. Right now, it’s a blank slate of beige, which you may recall if you took the part 1 and part 2 tours of our house right after we moved in.

The starting point for my design was this wallpaper. It’s what I refer to in Designer in a Binder® as my “crucial element.” I had fallen in love with this wallpaper and knew I wanted to use it, but wasn’t sure exactly HOW I wanted to use it, so I asked y’all what you would do. The resudlts were pretty evenly divided between options 1 and 2.
Well, we finally decided that we prefer option number 1 for a couple of reasons: 1) busy wallpaper makes Joe nervous so he’s a bit more comfortable with it on the ceiling, 2) I feel like my art choices will stand out more on solid, dark blue walls. Speaking of dark blue walls, you’ll notice this is the only room in our house that won’t have the walls painted Pure White by Sherwin-Williams. This goes back to the fact that I want this to be a room that we want to relax and linger in. And a dark, luscious blue sets that tone perfectly!
So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the rest of the design choices for the dining room! You can find a list of sources at the end of the post.
We are going to use all of our existing furniture and rug from our old dining room, because we still absolutely adore it all! You can see all the details of our old dining room here. And of course, we will be hanging our gorgeous piece of carved wood art again!
