I enjoyed the documentary.
Most historical/political descriptions of the Bauhaus and Gropius often fail to mention how much work Gropius did for the Third Reich, continuously sought commissions from the Nazis, and maintained good relationships and communications with Nazi officials even after he left Germany, never considering himself an exile. When Gropius was offered a position at Harvard, he wrote to Joseph Goebbels asking permission from him to go to Harvard and said it would be an achievement for German Nationalism. (Goebbels gave him permission)
Surely these times were complex and there should be some nuance in our reflections, but we can no longer ignore the political apathy of Gropius.
