Hi everyone,
I’ve been trying to buy a home for a while and recently found a place that checks all the boxes. It has a lot of character but needs renovations for sure.
For instance, I want to make the exterior window of the front house in the shape of a half-circle. I want to gut/redo the kitchen, and maybe put a solarium on the flat roof. I would also love to include tilework all over house and give the façade a grand entrance, as well as remove the concrete from the side yard and landscape the whole thing to the heavens and back.
As you can probably tell, I have many ideas and am very excited. But I’m really not sure where to begin. I don’t have an unlimited budget, but I do have a fair amount (100-200k).
Where do you recommend I start? Should I start with the exterior and then do the interior? Or vice versa? I really dig the Spanish style and want to double down on it (and maybe include Andalusian/Moroccan vibes). How do I find people that specialize in that type of architecture? Do I need an architect or a contractor? Do I have to use someone in-state or should I expand my horizons? I don’t care about someone’s pedigree/experience as long as they do fabulous work. So I would not be opposed to working with a fresh graduate, for example.
I am certainly all over the place and need to be reeled in, but as you can imagine, I’ve been looking for a house like this forever, so to finally find one is making me very excited.
