RIP to the Thompson Center (the postmodern example) ??????
Hasn’t sold yet, but should during the next real estate cycle, be torn down and I’m sure replaced with something bland.
The building was built cheaply and hastily, but the fact it is not built lot line to lot line and is stepped back/short, PLUS the public atrium and the interior is just so pretty and has been part of my winter commute for years (the Chicago Pedway runs under the Thompson Center), makes it a real bummer that it will be torn down.
Nothing will be built like this in downtown Chicago for at least 50 years. We just don’t have the sites for it anymore, nor the political appetite nor money to see the government spend like this until pensions are figured out.
