Just one glance at these juicy-looking illuminating pieces does make the mouth water. Designed by soft-geometry, a design studio based in San Jose, California and Kochi, India, these hand cast resin Elio lamps – one small, the other tall – are a direct nod to the curvilinear profile of Eileen Grey’s 1926 design, the Bibendum armchair.
soft-geometry designers Utharaa Zacharias and Palaash Chaudhary credit an informal photo series documenting the play of light on glass, water, skin and dust for inspiring the gummy candy-like stacks of translucent, tubular, cast resin. The stacked lip smacking sum of resin is intended to mimic the interactions of natural light on uneven transparencies.
Each lamp also includes a surprise smart home tech feature: voice control operation. Instead of worrying about an integrated circuitry within, soft-geometry simply included an add-on smart plug to connect to each lamp, allowing users to turn the Elio on or off without ever having to get up.
Each Elio lamp is made to order requiring 2-3 weeks before shipping, and is available via Dims. for $1,200 for the Small design or $2,400 for the Tall, both available in Aloe or Lychee colors.
