Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I rent a one-bedroom apartment with my two cats in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. About 25 plants live here, too. The building was constructed in 1929 and it retains some of the charming original features, though updates have been made to the kitchen and bathroom over the years.
My home is a significant expression of who I am, how I feel, and the things that I love. I need the things I’m surrounded with to give me a sense of vitality and magic. One of my favorite hobbies is finding a great thrift store or estate sale item and then researching the origin and history. It gives depth and life to the objects in my home, and it is educational.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: A delightful accumulation of things.
What is your favorite room and why? The kitchen! My favorite way to spend time is cooking and eating with friends.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? A yellow Calla Lily plant.
Any advice for creating a home you love? It’s not practical, but I almost never shop for any item specifically. If something strikes me as special and I feel strongly toward it, then I buy it and make room for it. I enjoy thrifting because I can separate myself from the context of a curated store or brand and focus clearly on how an object makes me feel.
