The insurer has identified the top sport utility vehicles for affordable policies.
A major factor worth considering in the purchase of a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) is whether it will qualify for the cheapest auto insurance.
Coverage is an ongoing cost that will continue for the entire lifespan of the vehicle.
By taking premiums into consideration, even a slightly more expensive SUV that has the cheapest auto insurance could end up being the most affordable vehicle to own over its lifetime. Since SUVs are now notably more popular than sedans and sports cars as the vehicle to drive, issues such as the cost of premiums for coverage are now playing a considerable role in the final decision between models. Moreover, SUV sales don’t appear to be slowing down by any means.
In fact, according to a recent Mercury Insurance news release citing a New York Times article, SUVs will make up 78 percent of personal vehicle sales by 2025. As a result, the insurer has assembled a list of the most affordable vehicles to insure, to help consumers to make the best choices for their wheels and their wallets. After all, even after the vehicle itself is paid off, the premiums will still continue monthly for as long as the vehicle is owned.
The Mercury research and development team found the 2021 models with the cheapest auto insurance.
The research and development team from Mercury took into account SUVs from the 2021 model year that are currently available at dealerships. From this, they calculated what the coverage would cost for the average driver in order to determine which models come with the lowest premiums when it comes to their car policies.
“Consumers have 100% bought into SUVs,” said Chong Gao, Mercury Insurance Director of Product Management R&D. “Auto manufacturers have responded with a ton of models, which is why Mercury’s list is a great guide for consumers because insurance cost is an important factor in purchasing a vehicle.”
The top ten vehicles for the cheapest auto insurance among available 2021 SUV models are the following. They are listed from least expensive at the top.
