The Challenge: Woodland Themed Nursery
Just like any other interior design project, this one came with its own set of challenges that the designer had to address. Here are a few of the issues that the designer faced:
- The woodland animals nursery needed an efficient layout given the room’s small footprint
- Accommodate plenty of storage cabinets to have an organized place for everything
- Include other kid’s furniture like diaper storage, nursery chair, and an additional pouf
- Lighter toned paint suggestions for the woodland themed nursery to complement the rest of the house
- Incorporate an existing diaper changing table and some other baby décor items

The Inspiration: Woodland Themed Nursery
The client’s inspiration library was filled with soft and light-colored woodland animal nursery design ideas and décor items. Since their entire house was minimal and had a Scandinavian influence, the clients wanted a space with bright walls. They were open to the idea of wallpaper but wanted to keep things simple and playful. In addition, the nursery they desired had to be functional and easy to maintain. The main focus was on light pastel shades and lots of woodland baby décor. Going along the lines of the theme, they absolutely loved animal pillows, wall hangings, and rugs.
The Concept: Woodland Themed Nursery
Following the client brief, two brilliant designers came up with their own renditions of updating their space. Spoilt by the choice, the client had to decide which initial presentations they want to go forward with. Both the designers suggested some beautiful ideas with the help of a moodboard. However, the client particularly fell in love with Berkeley’s design suggestions. She created an adorable animal sanctuary for the baby’s room design that captured their vision perfectly.
The Result: Woodland Themed Nursery
After the transformation, the woodland animals nursery looked nothing less than dreamy. Berkeley incorporated plenty of elements to bring in the rustic but cute vibes. Firstly, the walls were left minimal by only using a tinted crème shade. However, to elevate the interior in woodland style, an illustrated birch tree wallpaper is installed as a feature wall. By using a simple wallpaper design, the entire look of the nursery instantly changes.
The ceilings are intentionally kept white to brighten up the space so it doesn’t end up looking too busy, or small. Since the client wanted to retain the two main furniture items; changing table and bassinet, there wasn’t much room for other additions. However, following the woodland baby décor theme, the designer added a comfortable white armchair in one corner. In addition, a leather pouf is used right in front of the feeding chair for extra comfort. As a result, the entire furniture selection is kept minimal while being focused on functionality as well as ease of use.
To bring the whole woodland animals nursery together, the designer made sure to use plenty of décor items. For instance, three animal-shaped wall hangers and a whimsical mobile above the crib help in sprucing up the room. In addition, there are a couple of jute basket in the room that stick with the theme and provide easy storage! Furthermore, she added a birchwood framed mirror, a timeless black and white tribal print rug, and a seagrass light fixture for a softened rustic feel.
Before the Change
The woodland animals’ nursery previous served as a home office, with no overall design. However, by making a few tweaks and adding some warmth, the clients were able to transform this spare room into a beautiful woodland themed nursery. And Decorilla interior designed helped them curate this beautiful room that they can now use as their new arrival’s nursery.
