Instead of throwing away that cork after you finish the bottle of wine, you can make a snowman instead! This is a simple and yet brilliant craft that will take almost no time to make and looks great on the tree. You can also place it on the mantle, hang it from the ceiling or in the windows.

What Glue Sticks to Cork Best?
There are a lot of glues that work well with cork. E6000 or Gorilla Glue, the original, works well for this too. Hot glue is another option and what I happened to use because it’s so handy and affordable.
You need something that is strong and bonds solid, unlike the way white glue sticks to corks. It doesn’t hold well. While these glues work well, you don’t want to use these with kids, so I use caution when young kids are doing the gluing for this project.
What Paint Should I Use on the Wine Corks?
The cork I used was pretty light in color, so painting wasn’t really necessary, but I know not all cork is created equal, and that means you may want to paint yours white to look more like a traditional snowman.
When it comes to painting on wine corks, the best paint is acrylic. It covers the cork well and stays in place. It also offers a wide variety of colors so that no matter what you are painting, or painting on the snowman, you have the colors you need. I always keep a variety of acrylic craft paints on hand, so it’s something you can grab and use if you want to make your cork solid white.
How Can I Hang My Ornament?
There are a lot of ways that you can hang the wine cork snowman ornament. You can add a hook to the top just like you would other ornaments on your tree, or you can do any number of different things below, including what we used.
- Twine tied into a loop and glued to the top is what we used. This can be done with ribbon, twine, raffia, rope, or even fishing line.
- A screw hook or similar hook can screw down into the top of the cork and hold strong.
- Traditional wire Christmas hooks or paper clips that are stuck into the cork or hot glued on top.
- Yarn or string that matches your holiday tree theme.
Of course, adding a little scarf around the “neck” on this snowman is a must, and you can even include a hook through the back of it if you wanted to hang it that way! Just secure the scarf with a dot of glue.
What Ways Can I Customize My Snowman?
Customization is easy with this snowman. As with all of my crafts, I really try to give you a base that is easy to turn into your own unique creation. That includes this snowman and below are some ideas that I think look great!
- Add glitter to the snowman. If painting the snowman, sprinkle on silver or white glitter while the paint is still wet. Otherwise, you can use a glitter spray or just coat the cork in basic white glue and sprinkle glitter over the top then set aside to dry.
- Change up the colors of the pipe cleaner or even use a bit of felt or fabric instead.
- Paint the top cork black to create a full hat look.
- Use different colors of markers or the buttons and eyes to give it more personality.
- Add a bead, a small bit of greenery, or something miniature that is similar on the brim of the snowman hat.
If you are feeling extra creative, you can even paint someone’s name on the snowman or add the year it was made! This is a fun way to give this wine cork snowman ornament as a present!
Supplies Needed
How to Make a Wine Cork Snowman Ornament
Using a craft knife, cut one cork in half.
Trace and cut out a circle of black felt that is slightly larger than the diameter of the bottom of the cork.
Stand one whole cork up on its end, then add glue to the top and place one of the half pieces lengthwise on top of the cork.
Glue the black circle on top of the half cork.
Next, glue the second half cork on top standing upright to create a hat.
Use the black marker to add buttons onto the bottom cork. Then add two dots for eyes, and dots for a smile.
Use the orange marker to create a pointed “carrot” nose.
Cut a length of pipe cleaner and wrap it around the “neck” to create a scarf.
Cut a length of blue ribbon and create a loop then glue to the top of the hat for hanging.
Display on your holiday tree!
