There are so many easy ways to change your kitchen if a full renovation is not in the cards. Why not start by changing small things? In our homes, we have come up with all kinds of budget-friendly ways to update the kitchen without breaking the bank. In our old house we painted kitchen cabinets while we saved to do a full kitchen renovation. In this house, we painted our countertops to look like marble, painted our kitchen cabinets the easy way, and yes, I even painted the backsplash!
Recently I gave my friend Thea a budget kitchen makeover. With a little bit of time and not a lot of money, we gave her outdated red tile a completely new look. Stenciling the tile was the perfect budget-friendly option and it looks AMAZING.
People were OBSESSED with this part of our project! They could not believe how stunning a simple and cost-effective DIY backsplash can be! I gathered some of my very favorite DIY backsplash ideas for y’all and am sharing them to give you the inspiration to give your own kitchen a face-lift.

Painted Tile Backsplash by A Beautiful Mess. I love this bright pop of color and the transformation that came from just painting the backsplash is amazing!
DIY Herringbone Tile Backsplash by My Blessed Life. This kitchen went from basic to awesome with this faux painted backsplash. I still can’t believe how simple it was to create.
DIY Herringbone Faux Backsplash by A Beautiful Mess. Believe it or not, this dramatic backsplash is created by tracing a template with a marker! It really looks like beautiful white tile!
Chalkboard Subway Tile Backsplash by The Blooming Hydrangea. Draw in grout lines with a chalkboard paint pen. Super easy and super cost-effective!
Stenciled Backsplash by Lovely Etc. All you need is paint, a stencil and patience to create this beautiful backsplash! Carrie has actually painted her backsplash twice and both times it turned out perfectly.

Landlord-friendly DIY Cricut Backsplash by Lovilee. Karen used her Cricut and vinyl to give her tile an amazing makeover. You can also get your own downloadable SVG to recreate her amazing project! And because vinyl is removable, it is totally renter-friendly. It is even durable enough to wipe down!

Laminate Flooring Backsplash by Bower Power. We love the laminate flooring in our home…and I love this genius use of it as a DIY backsplash. You can find laminate flooring at most home improvement stores or even order online!
Handpainted Slate Tile Backsplash by Reality Daydream. This handpainted slate subway tile is an amazingly clever way to create your own backsplash for a fraction of the cost of real tile!
