I’m with you. I’m also a crusty 40 year old who has been around the world and seen the amazing architecture and buildings from different cultures, designers, and time periods.
Currently, it seems like things fall into one of two camps. 1.) Ultra-modern, hyper slick abhorentness. or 2.) Bog standard bargain basement cheap approach lacking any discernable style….ie. stucco rectangles.
I understand buildings are constructed and designed for a purpose and whoever pays the bills has to green light things and get their needs met, but I pray the trend of corporate blandness, soullessness, and inoffensiveness has to run it’s course in my lifetime.
Looking at “young cities”…Dubai, Singapore…vs. older, established skylines…it’s night and day.
