Read on as we unveil this classic transformation!
The Challenge: French Country Interior Design
The clients were very excited about purchasing a new house. They already had a clear idea of what style they wanted to dress it in. They also bought a large selection of furniture in advance. However, they needed help pulling off the French country decorating style. So, what they wanted from a designer was to:
- Complete the French country interior design, including the pieces already bought as well as new suggestions
- Curate accessories and decor that will tie the rooms together
- Compensate the lack of natural light with a bright color scheme with a touch of color
- Stick to the modern farmhouse/elegant country theme
- Use online bedroom ideas to create a relaxing master suite

French Country Decorating Style Inspiration
The client’s inspiration gallery was consistent and clear. It featured an abundance of airy, light-filled, and graceful spaces filled with gorgeous fabrics and natural materials. They loved the idea of having a rustic yet refined look that would make their home feel like a true retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
French Country Style Living Room Ideas & Moodboard
Taking the clients’ inspiration pictures and interior design style quiz results into account, the Decorilla team suggested two designers who made a promising match for the project. Both possessed the right artistic flow and a keen eye for elaborate detailing. And while both moodboards featured comparable furniture and layouts, the clients finally chose to continue with the concepts suggested by Drew F.
Drew’s vision was based on the foundational layer of furniture the clients had already purchased. He developed a design concept layered with distressed wood tones, classy shades of whites and creams, and a pop of blue. As a result, he counteracted the shortage of natural light, making the space feel warm, classic, and inviting.
French Country Interior Design Results
In the main seating area, Drew kept the existing sectional sofa for comfy relaxation. A stately armchair, reminiscent of Louis XV style, was placed across the way. The coffee table and end tables brought in the distressed whitewash that’s commonly seen in French country decorating style. Sheer curtains kept the room light and airy during the day. Meanwhile a matching duo of table lamps added to the lighting scheme, giving the room a relaxing glow in the evenings.
The secondary, more formal seating area was cozily arranged around the fireplace for intimate gatherings. The zone was anchored with a stunning area rug embellished with a vintage-inspired floral motif. The blue pattern also made a perfect companion to the pair of accent chairs bought earlier. In addition to the overall French country style living room flair, the fireplace went through a facelift, comprising of white-washing and a new mantle. The wood piece complimented the other wood elements in the space and hosted a pair of candleholders and an antique mirror for finishing touches.
French Country Dining Room
The dining table set was another one of the features the client wanted to keep. By opting to extend its white color scheme throughout the room, the designer succeeded in making the room exceptionally bright and airy. In order to enhance visual interest, he employed a pop of blue in several features, from the washout rug to whimsical cornflower wallpaper on the accent wall.
The stylish white composition was continued with a matching display cabinet and a pair of upholstered accent chairs. Although inherently contemporary, the interior still conveyed the classic French country dining room look through details such as spindle legs and a distinctive chair back design.
A rustic console table provided an additional touch of the countryside charm. This beautiful reclaimed wood piece housed a few curated accessories: a classic lamp and obligatory fresh flowers bouquet. Above, the beveled mirror completed the focal point of a French country dining room. The chandelier, a simple metal feature with delicate crystal accents, was the proverbial icing on the cake.
French Country Bedroom Decor
For the master bedroom, the goal was to create a serene and welcoming retreat that would successfully transport the dwellers straight to the countryside. The cohesive flow of the space implied a pure, simple, and white French country bedroom design, stylish and cozy at the same time.
The walls painted in a soft white hue matched the satin-like finish of the dressers and bedside tables. At the same time, the sleek profile of the canopy bed provided the right mixture of classic and contemporary. Adding delicate sheer curtains secured the privacy without compromising on light flow or disturbing the overall harmony.
The washed-out rug with its vintage-inspired patterns enhanced the dreamy countryside character of the room. Moreover, the bed bench with its curved lines and carved legs followed the same narrative. A robin’s egg blue lamp on the dresser alongside a delicate floral arrangement provided the only color accents in the room. The final result is a genuinely romantic bedroom with a sophisticated feel.
French Country Style Living Room Before Online Interior Design
Before the online interior design transformation the room received very little sunlight and needed smart design choices to lighten it up. Other design flaws included the absence of decor and no pop of color. The clients wanted a cohesive flow, well tied together, with an atmosphere leaning towards the feminine side—and the designer certainly delivered.
