Today Cherry Ong is taking us along to a garden she visited this spring.
I had a serendipitous discovery when we visited Boundary Bay in Tsawassen, British Columbia, in a district called Southlands Tsawassen. There is a vibrant community garden there called Earthwise Gardens by Earthwise Society. Here’s more info on the farm and garden: earthwisesociety.bc.ca.
We came on a rainy day, but that didn’t stop us from experiencing the vibrance and freshness of the garden.
Spanish bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica, Zones 3–8) bloom in pink and blue in the foreground while the beautiful garden unfurls behind them.
The path winds through densely planted beds, full of colorful foliage and flowers.
Mixing in shrubs and small trees helps add height and diversity to the beds.
I’m sure Cherry got wet viewing this garden in the rain, but the photos are gorgeous!
An old piece of machinery gets repurposed as garden art.
I think this might be part of the nursery, which helps produce plants as part of the garden’s mission to promote ecologically conscious gardening.
Gardening with a mind to being a good part of the local environment can also be beautiful, as these lovely yellow tulips help demonstrate.
A birdhouse is surrounded by a lovely pink clematis. (I think it’s Clematis montana, Zones 6–9).
Bees have houses in the garden as well.
