The LACMA remodel is a perfect example. Still under construction. Its extended museum will now bridge over the road itself. You would think it would display more exhibits, but no, it will have less exhibits than the previous design. Now compare this with the famous Chicago Museum. Both have a captivating design but with different purposes.
Which brings up a similar argument, should museums be built for the sake of efficiency with a thoughtful exterior facade, or use the building of the museum to be an expression of art itself?
That answer mostly depends on the tourism, cost, location, and how the owners of the building wants to do with their money. Both ways, form vs efficiency, are both acceptable approaches to a museum’s design intent
