If you’re looking to refresh your home this holiday season, look no further than the Dulux Solstice palette for inspiration.
Developed by Dulux’s colour forecasters, the Solstice palette features the colours of the 2024 summer season. This year, it’s all about natural, golden hues that exude a beautiful radiance and evoke feelings of security and warmth.
‘With everyone feeling the pinch in their wallet, we’re seeing more people entertaining at home, and colour is such an easy way to help bring joy and positivity into this space,’ explains Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux colour and communications manager.
Colours in Dulux Solstice palette range from creamy yellows (Dulux Jodhpurs and Dulux Handmade Linen Half), to softer shades of pastel blues (Dulux Pure Blue and Dulux Ocean Surf), warm terracottas (Dulux Potter’s Pink) ,and rust-toned browns (Dulux Tan Wagon).
Dulux Colour forecaster and stylist Bree Leech recently gave this living room and teenager’s bedroom a summer refresh using colours from the palette. Starting in the living room, she painted the walls Dulux Lama — a sandy hue with orange undertones that adds interest to a space without overwhelming it.
Clay hues feature across the cabinetry (Dulux Potter’s Pink) and soft furnishings, like the GlobeWest Pinto occasional chair, to add extra warmth, while contrasting soft blue accents highlight textures and styling pieces.
‘I loved the materiality of the Pinto occasional chair, with its mix of textured fabric and timber details as well as its sculptural organic shape,’ says Bree. ‘The clay hue of the fabric ties perfectly back with the Solstice palette, particularly Dulux Lama, that is featured on the wall of the living space.’
The bedroom is a more dreamy space painted with Dulux Jodhpurs — a muted creamy yellow colour ideal for any teenager’s space. The addition of quirky lamps and a scalloped rug add additional fun pops of colour to the space.
‘Organic and soft shapes are a key feature in the Solstice trend, so we avoided hard lines wherever possible to keep the feeling of the space casual and inviting,’ says Bree.
‘The hues in Solstice are designed to be immersive, so colour has been used on all four walls within each space.’
Dulux colour manager Lauren Treloar expects Dulux Lama, Dulux Jodhpurs, and Dulux Potter’s Pink to become popular 2024 summer shades as Australians become more confident with colour.
‘While these shades are well suited to bedrooms and living rooms, the hallway or entrance is another great location to invite colour into your home on a smaller scale. This is the first area that guests see and sets the tone for your home,’ Lauren says.
Use the entire Solstice palette, or have fun mixing and matching various colours. Select larger proportions of colours you love, and add an accent or tonal shade through furniture and decorative pieces.
