Dezeen Showroom: American designer Stephen Burks has created the light yet characterful Kida outdoor armchair for Dedon, made by wrapping fibres around the frame.
The Kida armchair is based on the German furniture brand’s Kida hanging lounge chair, and features the same wrapping technique and a similarly cocooning seat shape.
Designer Stephen Burks developed the design while working closely with Dedon’s weavers in The Philippines, as he sought to develop a style of seat that would look and feel less enclosed.
“Kida is about expressiveness and innovation,” said Burks. “The use of wrapped fiber to ‘paint’ the collection graphically makes it distinctly attractive and distinctly Dedon.”
“I see colour as a material and Dedon Fiber is the most flexible expression of that metaphor. Strong, textured, and adding both colour and protection, it’s an ideal material.”
The Kida armchair is available in three colour options – one light, one dark and one bright multicoloured design. The aluminium frame is lightweight yet strong, and the chairs come with seat and back cushions.
