As intimidating as DIY projects can seem (regardless of whether you’re starting a project for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro taking on a new challenge), you really can transform so many pieces in your space with the help of a little paint. Just ask TikToker Chelsea (@chelseazeferina), who recently went viral after sharing a video explaining how she transformed her IKEA stool with a cute and easy daisy-themed makeover.
Chelsea used a few simple tricks to paint her IKEA furniture. She gave the IKEA DOMSTEN stool, a furniture design from 1964 that was recently reintroduced to the store’s catalog as part of its Nytillverkad collection launch, new life with a little colorful customization.
First, Chelsea prepared the stool’s top for painting by coating it with water-based polycrylic. Next, she used a glass to draw the flower’s center, and painted it bright yellow. To finish off the DIY, Chelsea cut out a stencil for the flower petals, sketched them onto the stool, and painted them using white paint. With its light pine base and pastel legs, the $29.99 stool went from being adorable to adorable and completely personalized.
Since Chelsea shared her TikTok earlier this month, the video has received over 7,201 likes and 80,900 views.
“Wait … this is so cute!” one TikToker commented. “And [it] doesn’t seem too hard for non-artsy people like me.”
“Ohhh, I may need to do this, LOVE!!” another commenter wrote.
This isn’t the first time that Chelsea has given an IKEA piece a fun, maximalist makeover.
Since posting about crafting the daisy stool on her TikTok, she’s also shared a video documenting how she painted a lemon design onto an identical DOMSTEN stool. Regardless of whether or not you’re into food-themed decor, the moral of the story is that you don’t need to be a DIY expert to make a huge impact on your furniture staples — you just need a little paint and lots of imagination.
