The annual Resene Sir Ian Athfield Memorial Lecture will form part of the line-up, delivered in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland (on 24, 25 and 26 September, respectively) by Chilean architect and educator Sebastián Irarrázaval, a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) International Fellow (2018). Irarrázaval’s civic, commercial, residential and education work is underpinned by what he describes as a three-pillared design philosophy, encompassing care, connection and repetition.
Also visiting New Zealand during the festival is Australian broadcaster, comedian and architecture enthusiast Tim Ross, who will be presenting ‘Architecture is Ace’ in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch on 24, 25 and 26 September, respectively.
On Thursday 19 September, Architecture NZ and ArchitectureNow’s popular Model Citizens competition will be held at ECC in Auckland, with all proceeds from the teams’ entries going to Te Tāpui Atawhai Auckland City Mission.
Friday 20 September will see the return of the International PARK(ing) Day, where street parking spaces all around the motu, and the world, are temporarily repurposed to become tiny parks and places for art, play and activism.
