Set against the backdrop of Crescent Head’s renowned surf breaks, the Sea Sea Hotel is a vibrant tribute to ‘70s surf culture, curated by designer George Gorrow and his wife, Cisco Tschurtschenthaler. Slated to open on November 1, this 25-room boutique hotel aims to be more than just a place to stay. but also a cultural hub that immerses guests in the region’s rich tapestry of art, music and hospitality.
Drawing inspiration from the carefree vibe of the surf era, Gorrow has artfully combined artisan-produced furniture with bold artworks and contemporary design elements. Natural materials dominate the interiors, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages guests to connect with their surroundings.
Accommodation ranges from stylish studios and suites to a luxurious two-bedroom suite and a Balinese-style villa complete with a private pool. Every room features curated mini bars and 24-hour access to Sea Sea TV & Radio, a unique audio experience crafted by LA’s Wesley Herron.
At the heart of Sea Sea is the Club House, where a surf shop and gallery await guests, showcasing photography exhibitions. A hi-fi audio lounge offers live music experiences, while two cozy fireplaces create a warm ambiance in the bar and restaurant area. The space also offers a dedicated project space for cultural events and a games room.
The hotel’s design ethos emphasizes eco-luxury and a commitment to sustainability. Gorrow and his team have preserved the original building’s single-level layout while introducing expansive gardens that feature native landscaping. An inviting outdoor space boasts a heated pool, sauna, and even ice baths, encouraging relaxation in a serene environment.
The Sea Sea Sane Kitchen, helmed by renowned chef Daniel Medcalf, highlights the region’s local produce through a menu that reflects Crescent Head’s unique flavors.
For Gorrow, the vision for Sea Sea extends beyond mere accommodation. “A hotel should be a key experience,” he states, inviting guests to dive deep into the local culture. With its vibrant design and community-focused offerings, Sea Sea Hotel promises a memorable escape that celebrates the timeless allure of surf culture and the natural beauty of its surroundings.”
