DIY Fire Pit Ideas + Buying Options for Non-DIYers

A DIY fire pit can transform a basic backyard into an awesome hangout space. There are also some stylish and affordable fire pits you can buy if you don’t have the time or desire to make your own. We have pulled together the best options out there!

Y’all know outside time has been on my mind lately. Last week I shared a round-up of the best outdoor games and I also recently shared my tips for simple summer routines.

I’ve also been thinking a lot about what has made us love our outdoor spaces at our current home and at our last home. One of the things that we have loved in both spaces is FIRE! There’s nothing quite like a fire to make a space feel cozy and relaxing. It also warms spaces up in the spring and fall (and helps keep bugs away in the summer)!

We love the renovation we did on our back deck at our last home. We also built an awesome bar and redid the backyard landscaping. But one of my favorite things we added that really take our enjoyment of the deck to the next level was adding 2 fire pit columns. DIY fire pit ideas can transform a basic backyard. There are also amazing options if you don't have the time and energy to make your own. These are the best options out there for both!!

In our current home, we are fortunate to have an outdoor fireplace in our screened-in-porch and we love it. But part of me also misses our old fire columns!

Of course, before we made the final decision to purchase the fire columns at our old house, I perused a million different DIY fire pits! I wanted to share the best of the best that I found, in case your mind is also turning to how to enjoy your outside space more this summer and fall. This is the perfect time to do the grunt work so you can have an awesome spot for family and friend time as long as summer lasts and when it cools off this fall!

This fire pit with a bench from Allen on Instructables is amazing. I love that it is a patio with a fire pit in the middle, but the bench is what really makes it awesome! What a great place to gather and hang out!

Fire Pits to Buy

Is a DIY fire pit not something you want to tackle? There are tons of amazing options out there that you can buy! Check out these great options I found. Keep in mind that with lots of fire pits that are propane-powered, there is a tank. The reason we chose fire columns for our last home is that the tank sits inside the column.
