Miniature North Pole Street Light Christmas Craft

Do you have a winter village every holiday season?  If so, you may have wanted to have your own North Pole street light to make it feel more like you are visiting a village where Santa lives.   Now is the time to add it to your decorations. This is one of the easiest Christmas crafts you can make. With basic materials, the work is almost done for you. Put together a few supplies and watch the lights come on in the North Pole. Make one as a simple decoration or make a lot of them to create your own town.

Christmas is always a special time of the year. It brings joy, family, and friends together. But it can also be stressful with all the shopping to do, parties you need to attend, and gatherings that are planned for this time of the year.  The North Pole street light craft is an adorable holiday decoration that will help you keep your mind off all those stresses during this busy season. It’s simple to make and looks great at the base of the tree or in any window!

You can easily use it alongside your winter village as mentioned above, or it could be paired with this old book page Santa.  Of course, I also like the idea of this miniature piece next to the Santa Claus boot craft!  So many options and ideas for using it in your holiday decor!

What Can I Use if I Don’t Have a Solar Light?

These solar lights are pretty easy to find, but if you can’t find one for whatever reason, you can use other things. LED tea lights, the kind that looks like a real tealight candle but runs on batteries, can be used instead. You will place it on top of the pole. You can also use a small lamp without the shade on it.

What Can I Use for Snow?

Around Christmas time, they sell material that looks like snow. Below are some of my favorite options to use to make that snow look on the bottom of the street light. 

• Poly-fil from the fabric department. 
• Batting from inside old pillows or comforters. 
• White fabric, tulle, or felt bunched up to create the snow look. 
• Cotton balls sprayed with a bit of glitter spray. 

Use your imagination and create a snow look on the base of the light to give it a more natural “North Pole” theme.  Of course, you could also skip the snow and ad a bit of painted cardboard or paper to look like a street or wood platform that might hold the street light in place on the street. 

What Can I Use for Stripes on the Pole? 

Making the stripes on the pole is easy. I like to keep the crafts simple so that there are a variety of things that can be used. In this case, you can use anything that is red or red and white.

Washi tape works easily because the tape sticks without any help. You can also use wrapping paper, felt, and fabric as well.  Just make sure you use the right glue to keep it in place on your solar light or whatever you decide to use for the base of the light.  Hot glue is my go-to for things like this, but you can use any glue you have on hand that has a secure hold like Gorilla glue or even E6000. 

Where Can I Display This Christmas North Pole Street Light?

The best part of this Christmas North Pole street light is the different ways that you can display it. Below are a few ideas I love for this particular project.  You can get creative and add this to any number of decor areas in your home.

• Place on your mantle or a bookshelf as stand-alone decoration. 
• Make several and put them on each street of your holiday village. 
• Put them around your holiday train track.  
• Add to your walkway or just on the edge of your porch steps to create an “entrance” to the North Pole. 
• Place on a table by your tree with milk and cookies for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. 
• Add as part of a centerpiece on your Christmas table. 

No matter where you display this street light it will look amazing as part of your holiday decor!

Supplies Needed

How to Make a North Pole Street Light

Using a craft knife, cut a circle of Styrofoam. 

Press the end of the solar light onto one side of the circle, then use a pair of scissors or a knife to make a hole in that space for securing the light later. 

Glue the styrofoam circle into the plate. 

Add holiday-themed washi tape around the top of the solar light. 

Then wrap red washi tape in a spiral along the stem of the light. 

Wrap white washi tape around the stem of the light going between the red stripes to give it a candy cane look. 

Press and glue (if desired), the light into the hole of the styrofoam. 

Glue fake snow or cotton balls around the top of the styrofoam and base of the “sign”. 

Cut and glue a 6″ piece of floral wire to the base of the light portion of the solar light. 

Write “North Pole” on craft paper or a small card and decorate as desired with holiday paper or tape. 

Glue the sign to bead or wire and then hang so it dangles on the floral wire you added to the light already. 

Add additional decorations around the base if desired then display!
