Should you color your nursery blue or pink for your bun in the oven? If you don’t know the gender of your baby just yet, or you don’t want to know, or maybe you simply want a gender-neutral nursery, then this guide is for you. The standard M.O. for nurseries has always been to choose between pink for girls and blue for boys, but that’s not always the case.

If you don’t want pink or blue, but still want to prepare a beautiful nursery for your coming bundle of joy, there’s no need to fret. There are a ton of options when it comes to nursery furniture and decor that are great for a baby girl’s or boy’s nursery.
To help you get started, here are 4 simple tips to make your nursery preparation fun and easy:
Neutral Nursery Ideas
1. Choose a Neutral Color Palette
Neutral colors include beige, grey, white, silver, or gold. If you opt for a single-color palette, choose 2 shades of the same color, such as tan and nude, light and dark grey, or brown and beige. Having two shades of one color adds the subtle contrast your nursery needs so it doesn’t look dull or boring.

If you want to add pops of color such as gold, and silver, or muted colors such as sage green and light yellow, make sure all your core pieces are in neutral colors first. You can add colors through your decor or other room accessories like a crib cover.
2. Choose White Furniture
You can paint your walls or use printed wallpaper in neutral colors but your main furniture should be in one color to pop out. The crib, dresser, rocking chair, or sofa can come in white, and peppered with similar colors as the wall. For example, if your crib is white, you can use pillows and blankets in grey if your wall also comes in grey.

3. Use Organic Elements Like Wood
If you don’t want to use color, you can opt for white and wood. Your walls can be white while your furniture comes in wood. Accessories like wall decor and toys can be made of wood to create a color scheme that’s warm, welcoming, and organic. If you don’t want to use 100% wood on your nursery’s furniture, you can choose a white crib or dresser with wood paneling instead.
An all-white nursery can be dull. Adding a touch of organic elements, such as wood paneling and even plants can add that touch of design that makes your nursery feel homey.

4. Use Prints
If you think plain and solid neutral colors are not enough to make your nursery interesting, then add texture to the room by using prints. Choose a wallpaper that comes in an interesting print such as grey and white polka dots, animal images illustrated in white against a black background, or even a striped print.
If you must add a pop of color, choose gender-neutral shades such as yellow, orange, or sage green.

Conclusion
Pink, blue, dolls, and trucks are no longer the only colors and themes you can use for a nursery. Neutral-themed nurseries are becoming more on-trend, with stores offering more options for parents to have more freedom when it comes to choosing colors and themes that are appropriate for both boys and girls.
